Reply with quote | #1 | We have a 9/2/08 Duroc gilt for sale. She placed 2nd and 3rd at every jackpot we took her to, this was our first year to show and I think she would have done better at all the shows if my son was more experienced. 1st place breed champion @ Atoka County 7th @ OYE but we were disqualified due to jockey/handler error. No fault of the gilt she breezed right through the sift pens and straight to the big ring. made 2 passes in front of the judge and straight to 7th place pen. She is from Beardon Swine Genetics and has cycled. For more info or pictures let me know. |

I am not trying to start anything or be nosy, but would you care if I ask you what your son was disqualified for? I try to learn all the dos and donts so we dont make the same mistakes. Thanks, |

Reply with quote | #8 | Sorry for not responding sooner. I will have pictures and pedigree for all on Tuesday March 31st.
The answer to the disqualification question is as follows: My son and his gilt were in Class 3 we wanted to wait until the last of the bunch was going through the sift judge in order to keep my son and his pig from having to walk to much. ( kid gets anxious not the pig) We simply messed up and waited to long to get him in there and he actually ended up in class 4. Rookie mistake on our part and very disappointing for the kid. She breezed right through to the big ring and went to 7th place pen then we realized what had happened, they looked at his registration papers and he was sent out.
Believe me it was not the kid or the gilt they did a fantastic job! and we were so proud of them both it was honestly our fault, rookie mistake and I assure you all it wont happen next year!!!

I saw your gilt at OYE and she is a really good gilt. I know the person that was helping you at OYE and I know that he was helping you because he knew that you needed his help. I have seen him around the show business for over 30 years and he is no "Jockey" he was simply trying to help your son and you. He has been around long enough that he knows that those pigs are up on there feet for a long time and that your pig would look so much better if she wouldn't have to stand for such a long time. Mistakes happen, I know that this is tough on the kid, but the man that was helping only wanted the best for your son and his pig. I know that he is not even an AG Teacher, so you should thank him for standing up to help you in your time of needed assistance. At OYE there is so much going on that this could happen to anyone and I know that this didn't only happen to your son there were plenty of other kids that this happened to aswell. |

Reply with quote | #10 | In saying jockey I was referring to my son!!! And I did not attempt to lay blame on anyone other than myself and my husband.
The man you are referring to is and always will be a very good friend to our family, there is no blame to be laid on him. He has been a godsend to us and we will always look to him for instruction.
Whoever you are you need to read more accurately and mind your own business. We chalked it up to being inexperienced and that was that!
My family will never be able to repay that man for all the time and caring he gave us this past Show season. |
